a freebie for friday

May 9th, 2008 by sarah

That’s right. I’ve decided to give away the gathering apron featured in my tutorial of a couple weeks ago. Why? Because I need an excuse to make another one, of course!

Here’s how to throw your name in the hat for this drawing: Tevis needs a birthday! Leave a comment here before Monday and let me know what month and day you think Tevis should celebrate her birthday and why.

Mmmm… I think Tevis was born on a dreadfully cold and stormy night in January. Her poor mum had a terrible pregnancy – not sure why- and had been unable to make it home for Christmas. However, she was desperate to get home to her family in time for her baby’s birth. She was driving, driving, driving, the wind was howling, the snow swirling fiercely and all of a sudden, she felt a terrible pain and knew her baby was coming any moment. She saw the lights of a farmhouse up ahead and pulled in, not knowing who they were or if they could possibly help her. It was a funny little old farmhouse with no electricity but it did at least have a roaring fire. The couple were quiet and nervous but of course offered their help. The birth was quick and painful and Tevis was very small and a bit blue. The poor mum was frantic with fear for her baby – there was no medical attention and the farmhouse was so cold – but the woman of the house wrapped the tiny, whimpering baby in a long, soft length of old flannel and carried her to the fireside where she rubbed and rubbed that little baby’s arms and legs, and back and chest until they were rosy, whispering and singing softly to her all the time. Such a dramatic beginning is where all of Tevis’s strength and determination comes from. So there’s my 10 cents – 11th January :-) – ’cause I sure love your apron!

That is an amazing story in the preceding comment. I can’t believe I have to follow that! Plus, January 11 is my own darling daughter’s birthday!!/

However, my suggestion was February 29 – that was she will always be young at heart. When she’s forty, she can truthfully tell someone she’s only had 10 birthdays! My little one loves fairies right now and that seems like such a magical birthday.

Hmmmm. Those are hard ones to follow, but I suggest June 21st–the longest day of the year so she can celebrate as long as possible!

Why not celebrate her birthday on the 4th of July! That way she can always have a parade and fireworks for her birthday. Lots of picnics and BBQ’s also that she can pretend is in honor of her.

I think that she should have the birth date of October 29th! Why? Because for one it’s my darling daughters birthday and she is a HOOT for a 4 year old!! It is also a start off of the holiday’s in our house. We call the 29th, 30th (DH birthday), and the 31st birthday ween bash. This to us is the official beginning of the holidays and is a great time of year!!

I think Tevis was born on Valentine’s Day, February 14. It will be easy to remember for all the people in her life. jancd

May 1st. That’s my birthday and it’s always been a wonderful day for me. Tulips, mostly sunny, cheery, full of love and good memories. Wouldn’t you want all that for Tevis?

February 26th in the middle of a long cold winter. But of course the weather should be unseasonably warm on the day of her birth that’s something everyone would always remember.
I was thrilled to see the giveaway. I had just posted on my blog that I wanted to make the gathering apron and put a link to the tutorial. Then I discovered the giveaway.
Happy birthday to Tevis whenever that will be!

I want to make matching gathering aprons for my four year old daughter & I. I have a question on the tutorial. My daughter can’t tie yet so my question is this, do you think that two buttons placed at the center of the waist where you have your ties would work? I can always just tie it for her but I like her to be independent as much as possible and she can do buttons. Thanks for the help and the wonderful tutorial!

Jill–Hope you have fun making the matching aprons! When I made a child’s apron I only put button holes at the bottom corners, not at the middle of the bottom as I did on the tutorial. This seems to work fine (especially with the shorter apron), and with only two button holes to attach, I think the buttons at the waist would be a great idea! I may have to try that myself next time around :-) . Hope that helps.

How about June 30th? A good
summer birthday and then you got the 4th of July a few days later, that way you can Party all week! lol
